LaBeouf’s violent audition

SHIA LaBEOUF was so desperate to land a part in 2006 film A GUIDE TO RECOGNISING YOUR SAINTS, he staged a violent outburst at his audition to prove he was tough enough for the role.

At the time, 21-year-old LaBeouf was best known for his role in Disney kids’ show Even Stevens, but was keen to start taking on more gritty projects.

And the star had his sights set on the role of Robert Downey Jr.’s disaffected younger self in the drama, so he decided to try and impress the panel at his audition by showing he could play a violent teen.

He says, “If I want a movie role badly enough, I’ve been known to punch my way through a wall. (The part) strongly appealed to me.

“I did one audition and they turned me down because they didn’t think I was tough enough, I convinced them to give me another audition and I was determined to show that I wasn’t this little Disney actor.

“So I walked in, looked around the room and said, ‘This place is so clean and tidy. But I’m about to ruin it.’ Then I started punching a hole in the wall. They seemed surprised but gave me the part.

“Just as well, really, because otherwise I’d have been the idiot who punched a hole in the wall and still didn’t get the part.”
